TM1 10.2 64b on Windows 8.1 64b

Post by vensyd »

Hello guys,

Am trying to install TM1 10.2 64b on Windows 8.1 64-Bit but its throw an error saying:

"This App can't run on your PC"
To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.

Does not TM1 10.2 support Windows 8.1?

Or is there any alternative way to install this?

Thanks

Hard to tell. The new and glossy IBM Software Product Compatibility Reports (SPCR) tool (which is used by their Supported Environment page) generates content that is at best cryptic and at worst unfathomable.

Considering that I do indeed have a 10.2 test environment running on a 64 bit Win 8.1 (cursed be its name) box, whether it's officially supported or not is less of an issue than the fact that it works.

Provided, of course, you install it under an Admin login, and run the install "As Administrator".

(Apropos the above comment... yeah, this is really helpful and informative, thanks for that Iboglix, it clarifies the issue enormously.)

Update: I re-copied the s/w to my laptop and tried to install as Administrator ... now it has started installing. Not sure what was wrong with my previous copy. :)

Interesting; it's possible that given the monolithic size of the thing you didn't get all of the Taaaarrrgggzzz archive over and that as a result Windows 8.1, being Windows 8.1, mis-identified the installstream package as a 16 bit application.

In any case, all that matters is that you have it working.

It should work as there is no significant change in the core from windows 7 to windows 8.1 apart from GUI.
In TM1,the answer is always yes though sometimes with a but....

It all installed well. But with Perspectives it throwing below error:

'Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine'

As per suggestion updated the secruity update, unregistered and registered back 'mscomctl.ocx' but still throwing same error.

using Excel 2010 32 Bit.

Any clues?

The number of older applications that I and others (per the MS forums) have had problems installing might beg to differ on the significance. As one poster said, "I didn't agree to give up my licence to {insert software here} when I went to Windows 8". Even newer software isn't exempt; you'll get an incompatibility warning when installing SQL Server 2008 (a whole 5 years and 1 version old) for instance, and the warning isn't bogus. Some functionality which works fine in Win 7 but which will hang the system in Win 8 can attest to that.

Did you try this one from Moby91's post in this thread?

Someone here had the same problem just last week and that was the solution to it.

If you right click on your mscomctl.ocx and select properties what version does it show?

Mine is 6.01.9834 and works a treat. There are a couple of older versions (not significantly older by any means) that will cause that error to be thrown.

And you definitely unregistered it (and got a confirmation that the unregistering was successful) and re-registered it (and got a message that that was successful), yes?

Script to un-register and de-register MSCOMCTL.OCX

Code: Select all

reg delete hkcr\typelib\{831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}\2.0 /f

if exist %systemroot%\SysWOW64\cscript.exe goto 64
%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32 /u mscomctl.ocx
%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
exit

:64
%systemroot%\sysWOW64\regsvr32 /u mscomctl.ocx
%systemroot%\sysWOW64\regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx

exit
May be helpful for soneone who faces with same issue.
