Windows 10 and Cognos

Post by konjis1 »

One of our users received a new Surface Pro with Windows 10 installed. We are currently running Cognos 10.2.1.1 which includes Xcelerator. Once he tries to load Xcelerator he is getting this error message:

"INS-ERR-0075 The following prerequisites are missing. Please cancel this installation and install them: “32 bit editions of Microsoft Office Excel 2007 or above”.

What's interesting is that he has the 32 bit installation of Office 365. I know it is not supported at the moment but has anyone successfully loaded Cognos 10 on Windows 10? If so how did you go about it?

I assume you are talking about Cognos Express??? Can't help you there. I have loaded regular TM1 v10.2.2 on Windows 10 and it worked fine.

Not sure if windows 10 is actually the issue.

When express 10.2 first came out I was asked to install it for a customer who had excel 2013; which at the time was unsupported - the fancy installer would stop it from being installed.
However you could get it working by installing it on a pc with excel 2010 and then copying the Bin folder over.

Caveat being you would of course be unsupported.

Interesting! I will try this and see if it works. So all i would have to do is copy the bin folder onto the Surface Pro without running the installer on the SP?

Yes and understanding that you do unsupported actions.

Or if it's a realistic option, you can upgrade to CX 10.2.2 an then you can get rid of that CX installer and use the standard enterprise installer

After I copy the bin folder over, where do I specify the server? Am I missing a step? I copied over and tried to add the add-in in Excel and it doesn't do anything.
