Weightings not changing

Post by par3 »

Hey Guys/Ladies

I am trying to change some elements weightings from 1 to 0 but nothing happens. It still stays 1.

Stupid question I know but I do not have the energy to struggle this morning.

Any ideas?

Thanx!

How are you doing this; dimension editor, .xdi, TI...?

You're definitely trying to change child elements, not an element which isn't a child? (I know that's obvious, but the DE does let you change the weighting of a parent via the element properties... except of course it always bounces back to 1 after you close the properties dialog, which sounds like what you're describing.)

Any chance you could post some screen shots showing what's happening? It's a bit difficult to diagnose with the information available.

Hi,

are you trying to change the weight of an element that is not a child of a consolidation element? You can only change the weight of an element if its under a consolidation element.

That answer sounds... oddly familiar, somehow.

Thanks for the enlightenment - NH.

Of course "confirmation" usually involves making a reference to a previous answer.

The absence of such a reference usually means "didn't read the thread before replying".

Everyone's done it from time to time, but it's not a good habit to get into which is why a gentle tap on the shoulder is no bad thing.

I have added ALL_ABC kind of consolidations to roll up numeric elements to a consolidation in each dimension of a cube. All the elements in dimensions are added as children to a Consolidation and the weight for both elements and consolidations are 1 (by default).

For some reason the values are not rolled up to the consolidations and therefore cube shows no records but when I select the leaf level elements in dimensions then it does shows single record.

I have also tried to change consolidation weight to 0 but it doesn’t save it and pulls back 1.

Any idea why is it doing it?

Thanks,
Adnan

Are the values for the n-level elements rule calculated? If so it sounds like they aren't fed. (Or a c-level rule that results in a zero overriding the standard consolidation.)

If that's not the case it could be beneficial for you to provide a snapshot of the dimension hierarchy (with the consolidation selected and the properties window on so we can see the weightings) and then also a snapshot of the cube in question showing where it doesn't consolidate as expected. A right-click on the cell that isn't consolidating and selecting "Trace Calcs" will give more of a view as to exactly what it thinks it is supposed to be doing.
