10.1 Local Server

Post by ladon »

Hi,

I have just installed Tm1 10.1 Client and I'm unable to load the local server. When I click 'Start Local Server' nothing happens. Do I need to install Cognos TM1 Admin Server as well?

thanks in advance

I think you don't need to. Does the log file tell you anything?
In TM1,the answer is always yes though sometimes with a but....

actually there is one warning :
Executing command "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe /codebase "C:\Program Files (x86)\ibm\cognos\tm1\bin\TM1RuleEditor.dll"" successstatus = 0 windowstyle = HIDDEN waitforexit = YES...
Successfully executed system command: "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe /codebase "C:\Program Files (x86)\ibm\cognos\tm1\bin\TM1RuleEditor.dll""
Warning: Application has returned exit code 100, Expecting return code 0.

Dont think that will affect local server though.

Hi Ladon,

You beat me to this, I have just encountered the exact same problem while testing 10.1.
I've tried in both perspectives and architect, server and client side but have had no luck - where did you find the warning, I couldn't find any logs or messages to indicate a problem.

I did however come across an outstanding PMR relating to a similiar issue with Cognos Express (PM39401)
" In Cognos Express 9.5.0, it is not possible to start a local
server from TM1 Architect component. Despite having a valid
Data Directory specified and having all the necessary files
present, the service just does not start. Starting it as an
application poses no problems. In a standalone TM1 environment,
there is no problem starting it as a local server. "

Yes, I think I read also that this is not supported in CX. No idea why that's the case.

I have available a free tool that allows you to start up as many local servers as you like with a few clicks.

Here's a link.

If you want to run TM1 as a service in Windows 7/Vista, it's worth reading my blog post regarding this, too.

It's in the C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\tm1\instlog folder after installation.
