As i press ok, the title on the tool bar (TM1) starts disappearing. At the end the title will appear again. I have been trying a number of ways to replicate the error or to get it working.

Those ways I have tried including
1) openning the excel active form document, load prespective and connect to TM1 ( all the time doesnt work)
2) load prespective, connect to tm1 and opening the excel active form document. ( sometimes work and sometimes not)

and the worse is testing on different machine gives me different result. what have i done wrong ?

This is a common issue, and from my experience affects different machines at different times, even if they are supposedly built from the same image.

Your two choices are to either switch away from the TM1 tab on the ribbon, which you will forget to do at some point and the issue will re-occur, or rename the TM1pRibbonX.xlam file in which case the old fashioned pre-ribbon menu system will appear in its place, if I remember correctly, under the Addins tab.

This appears to be one of the issues they have fixed in 9.5.2 FP1. Which doesn't help you if you are on CX9.0.

thanks for the info andy. But i would like to find out more on the suggestion that you mention. I try switching away from tm1 tab. But To get my self connected to tm1, i will have to be at tm1 tab and click on the connect button. Then the popup to connect to the server appear and since then i cant move the focus away from TM1 tab.

when you mention renaming it to TM1pRibbonX.xlam, what is the procedure involve ? the file is found on c:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos Express Clients\Xcelerator Client\bin folder. What should i rename the file to ?

The only option i have is to upgrade from CE9.0 to CE9.5 which uses TM1 9.5.1.

Yes that is the menu.

You can rename the tm1pRibbon to whatever you want. It is simply a means of making Perspectives unable to find, and therefore load, the file. If it can't find it you get the menu in your post.

Yes you don't get descriptions with the icons, it is a pre-ribbon menu system. You can use the drop down menu on the CXL item on the left hand side of the menu bar, which has textual menu items.

As for switching away from the TM1 Ribbon tab, yes you have to have it selected when you actually want to do anything with TM1 - which is why I was saying that at some point you will forget to switch away from it.

so is it the case that the only solution to solve the issue permanently and to be able to use the ribbon is to upgrade my existing version to TM1 9.5.2 ?

is there any hotfix release to fix this issue on TM1 9.5.1 ?

thanks

I can't guarantee that it would fix it, it depends on whether you believe IBM or not. I have applied FP1 to my laptop and haven't had the issue since, but I also haven't been doing much to trigger the issue either. For me it would happen most frequently when I was running VBA code.

If you are thinking of the upgrade to CX9.5, you need to be aware that hotfixes for TM1 are for TM1, not for CX. Looking at the documentation for the latest Interim Fix that I can find for CX9.5, IF4, it does not show this issue as having been addressed.

Glad I said that.

They haven't fixed it, regardless of what it says in the release notes.

Still happens in 9.5.2 FP1.

Yes, 9.5.2 FP1.

Happens when stepping through my own VBA Code, the code writes a value to the worksheet, message comes up saying something about unable to write value, and the Connect description disappears. Repeats for every icon on the ribbon bar with each description disappearing in turn, with finally the TM1 label on the tab disappearing. After they all disappear and the code moves on to the next line, they normally all reappear, then whole scenario repeats the next time the code write to the workbook.

I am using TM1 10.2 and still get this issue intermittently. I've reported it to IBM but without having a way to consistent reproduce the issue I cannot seem to get any kind of fix or workaround.

I believe the issue is related to Active Forms and I think it has to do with the forms calculating automatically when you open the workbook (which I think is related to the Excel named range TM1REBUILDOPTION set to =1).
I think the issue is also exacerbated by having filters or grouped columns on an Active Form

Hi guys

Has anyone had any luck on a solution for this? We are running 10.2.1 and still have problems with this issue.

Is the workbook/worksheet protected? If so remove the protection and see if that resolved the issue.
There is an issue with protected worksheet with Perspective and Excel.
