What-If analysis with TM1.

Post by deepu_sree »

Hi All,
Can somebody give me a few ideas/inbuilt mechanisms in TM1 which help you do What-If analysis?

I'm completely clueless about What-If analysis and thats why such a vague question. Sorry about it.

Regards,
Deepu.

Hi Deepu,

There are some elements you can do within Excel, for example spreading and there are things you do via TM1 Contributor, but on the whole TM1 itself is like a starting block. If you want it to do something you build it by using either rules (calculation language) or TI (Turbo Integrator).

For more information might I suggest you look at OLAPedia or check out the IBM web site,

Jim.

Hi Deepu,

Depending on your needs:
  • Why you need the what-if analysis
  • What you will do with it once it's finished
  • What kind of "ifs" we are talking about (driver based or "finger" based variations).
There are a lot of things you can do with TM1 and a lot of different ways to do them:
  • Use sandboxes
  • Use driver cubes and rules
  • Use TIs
  • Spread values with the many spreading functions.
  • None of the above
  • All of the above
As Jim said, you should lookup IBM's website and familiarize yourself with the different TM1 features.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!
