Hello Frnds,

I am very new to Cognos TM1. I have installed 9.5.1 and able to see TM1 tab in Excel 2007. But the Active Form tab, Data Spread Tab, Sandbox Tab and majority of the options are greyed out. I am not able to figure out what the reason is.

Can you guys help me out here.

Thanks,
Anit

It is very interesting that the first feature you chose to use being the in-spreadsheet browser is also probably one of the most obscure!

The buttons on the TM1 ribbon are context sensitive. Depending whether you are logged in to a TM1 server and then again on the context of the cell that is selected the button enabled states and captions will update. I'm sure if you use TM1 for a little while you will figure this out.

Note however that although it is contradictory when using TM1 you should not have the TM1 ribbon active. This is for performance reasons as the switching of ribbon states on every cell selection change causes a lot of unnecessary client-server chatter that is best avoided.

Also for you and any other newbies, make sure that Excel is in manual calculation mode when using TM1!

Thanks a lot Lotsaram for you quick response.
Here what exactly do you mean by context sensitive? cause even if i click on any other cell or for that matter any other sheet, still they remain inactive.

Also, about the environment. I am working for a POC, so have installed all the Server/Client on my local machine. Its a standalone environment and my requirement is to create a cube from using one of the Framework Manager packages which we already have. After creating the cube, we want to write back data to the cube based on some calculations.

Hope i am able to explain my requirement. Please do let me know if there is another approach to do what i am trying to do.

Regards

Context sensitive in the same way that typically all office menus toolbars and ribbons are context sensitive. That is buttons are enabled when they have relevant functionality to the current selection, otherwise they are greyed out and inactive.

In your case from the pattern of buttons that are inactive it would appear that you are not logged on to a server. If you are in fact logged on try opening server explorer and slicing out a cube view as this may reset the ribbon. If that does not work try an Excel restart. If you still have issues there may be an add-in conflict, try selectively disabling any other add-ins.
