EV support for aliases

Post by ScottW »

I'm using EV vers 9.3.1 and have noticed that support for element aliases (right-click > Extra > Choose Alias Tables) has a definite bug. Where multiple dimensions in a cube have aliases of the same name, the alias(es) if selected will apply to ONLY the first dimension in the cube (in tabdim order).

The only way around it would seem to be to create unique alias names for each dimension by creating an additional alias per dimension by prefixing or suffixing the dimension name to the alias name. This seems like quite an annoying and otherwise unnecessary chore and a little contrary to standard TM1 design.

Maybe a good question to post to http://www.evusers.org/ which is pretty active and good about EV as it is run by the some of the old "Temtec" team, company which create EV at the beginning...
Hope this help.

Thanks Robert,

Martin / site admin, how about posting a link to the EV users board on the board index?

Scott,
I recall a similar issue in EV 9.1.2, multiple alias(es) with same name (only different case) would result in undefined behavior, but this 'bug' was solved in EV 9.3.1! (the version you have), your issue seems to be a variant of that one though. So I suggest you contact Cognos Support to report it.
In your case you use the same alias(es) for different dimensions?

BTW the latest and greatest version of Executive Viewer is now 9.4, but it's possible that Cognos has not communicated this yet.

An external link has been already posted about the EVUsers.org in the Olapedia but, as you said, it may be a good idea to post it on the board index as well...

Not quite sure where to put it. A single post doesn't warrant a forum of its own and I'm loathe to put it up with the Jobs/Olapedia/Calendar links in the top right as it is specific to the TM1 community (and a subset at that).

I might set up a "Links" link at the top right with Jobs/Olapedia/Calendar that includes the EV forum and other stuff (e.g. The sites of Cognos partners who send me loads of money).

Can I suggest in the meantime you just tell people whenever they ask an EV question that they might get better response there? And people affiliated with the site can put the details in their signature if they wish.

WE'RE ACTUALLY ALLOWING PEOPLE TO SUGGEST USING OTHER FORUMS???

Wow.

Oh wait... this isn't Cognos Communities, is it? :D

(Interesting aside; you must have been logged in on the Test forum when you made that post since that was where the link was to in the notification e-mail. I thought it was a little odd that the star ratings were visible when I landed here...)

It seems as though we have a 2 year echo ....

The original post also said exactly that and was referring to a bug in that feature with an older version of EV
