Slicing issues with PC security package

Post by fleaster »

Hi all,
So here's the situation:

Symantec Endpoint Security was rolled out a while ago across our organization, which was meant to restrict clipboard functions (e.g. people dumping out large volumes of customer data etc). Since then, we have had various issues with TM1 Perspectives and Excel such as: freezing when attempting to slice, slow snapshot speed, active form error messages etc

We have discovered a few workarounds for users e.g. use Inspreadsheet Browser to slice, press Esc rapidly while slicing from cube, copy/paste a blank excel cell (to clear the clipboard) before slicing etc

...however, needless to say it's still pretty annoying + erratic depending on what version of XL is being used (2007/2010 etc).

Has anyone else encountered similar issues, and if so, did you have any tips on resolving them...?

Thanks!

Matt

I have had issues with Symatec in the past as well. It's very invasive as it tries to stop pretty much everything. You'll probably need to speak to your IT department as it's probably trying to stop VBA code from running in the background. If you get the security settings within Excel altered you should be fine,

thanks Jim - do you remember what Excel settings needed to be updated to make it work? e.g. was there some sort of patch that needed to be applied to Excel, or wasthe change on the Symantec side to allow certain programs to do their thing...? :)

cheers,

Matt

Within Symatec you can set the software it will integrate with. Well that's what the IT department I was working with told me. I wasn't able to change the settings myself as the PC was locked down. They changed a setting and the issue went away. Give your IT guys a call and see what they say. That see if you can find anything on google,

Ok no problems... guess there's no quick fix then... so I better get started "playing politics" with IT now :)
