Perspective Best Practices

Post by vichammer »

Can anyone point me to a best practice guide for TM1 Perspectives? Mainly, I'm trying to find information on how to migrate between environments. I need to migrate more than 50 Perspectives worksheets under Architect Applications. I've looked at the }Applications directory and found the .extr files that point to the spreadsheets and I'm wondering if there is a way to update these without having to go into each file? Also, in the workbooks there are multiple sheets and references to a Production server and those would need to be redirected to another Dev server for testing an upgrade. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You want to use the }Externals folder within your data directory and a simple macro cycling through will change any references from Service Name X to Service Name Y.
General migration between servers involves copying and pasting the directory or specific objects within it and then bouncing the destination.

Searching for "migration" on here will probably give you endless hours of reading material.

Thanks for the quick response Declan. I took a look at the }Externals directory and none of the files that exist in Applications exist there. I just realized that everything under Applications are just shortcuts. Is that typically how Perspectives is deployed?

Search the tips section for "TM1 Reference Updater". It does exactly what you are after.

However you still need to get to the directories where the files to be updated are located! Attaching application files as shortcuts is not a recommended practice! Much better to upload the files.
