Insight very slow connection to TM1 Server

Hello everybody,

since you helped me out to get my server running, i hope you can help me out one more time. :)

We want to use Insight to build Reports.
But the Insight Client is barely usable.
Symptoms:
  1. First connection after insight startup takes very long (~3min.)
  2. Importing a cube to the worksheet takes long (cube without rules: 30-40sec. / cube with rules: 3-4min.)
I dont know how Insight handles the data.
Can you recommend anything to speed up TM1 or the connection between the TM1-Server and the client?

//Update: I'm currently not using any Cube to Cube Feeders. Will they increase performance significantly?

I use rules to calculate for example producitvity in a "report"-cube, which i want to use in Insight.

Here are the specifications of our server:

Code: Select all

TM1 Version: 10.1.1

Hardware:
2 vCPU Cores with 2 Ghz
16 GB RAM
Bandwith: 10 Mbit/s (synchr)
Available Network Interfaces: 1

VM:
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
HardDrive C: 256 GB
IE Version: 9.0
Thank you very much in advance
Greetings from Germany!

As far as I'm aware Insight is designed to be a stand alone analytics piece rather than a TM1 reporting tool. I'm not sure I would use it for reporting unless your talking about the iPad app and even then I think works on a stand alone basis. I'm somebody will be able to expand on my limited knowledge of Insight,

Jim.

@moritz:
Only Admins can attach to a TM1 server and pull cubes into Insight. Apparently this is by design. Users can consume using Insight only if you build and publish an 'Application'.
@jim wood:
Prior to 10.2 we had Active Reports, which are actually a BI output format with the data and visuals in a single file. TM1 can be the source but they are firmly offline, stored in a .MHT file which you can email around etc.
With the 10.2 Mobile Contributor
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ibm-cog ... 31008?mt=8
You do now get a live link to the server. Although it is intended for planning input (on a very small scale) and approval/rejection I suppose you could use it for reporting. But it's very new and raw.

Thanks for the clarification David. I'm planning to have a good look at 10.2 over the Christmas period when I'll have some time. I've heard bits and read some things on here but there's no replacement for getting your hands dirty,

Jim.

Thanks for your answers. :idea:

@David Usherwood:
Thats exactly what i want to do.
Create a report as admin in insight and publish it with insight.
Afterwards the report on the ipad should access ~real-time Data from the TM1-Server. (The Data is updated daily. ~3am)

Another question:
Im very new to TM1, but im still not sure if the server need access to the source files.
We're importing the data from csv-Files. Can i delete these files after the import to TM1?
