TM1 Budgeting and Planning - Good learning resources

Post by TF34375 »

Any good resources for learning to implement 'Budgeting and Planning' TM1 applications ?

I googled to find out few:

1) Book:
IBM Cognos Tm1 Cookbook

2) Sample application:
Propel Planning Lite Demo (http://www.tm1forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=7727)

Any reviews on these ? Or any other good resources ?

You would lot better off by going through IBM Help PDF guides than IBM Cognos Tm1 Cookbook, particularly the Turbo integrator guide and Rules guide. Thanks

I would say that you are probably starting at the wrong end of the spectrum on this one, the reason TM1 has become a forerunner in building such applications is primarily because of its power and flexibility. 99% of the time when you are asked to build a forecasting solution for someone, they will have already been doing it through some other tool previously - of course there will be areas where you can help improve the process but the basic methodology and principles behind what they have been doing are normally correct - since they know their business.
  • Ask the relevant parties what they do now.
  • Ask the relevant parties of things they would like to improve (more granular detail, different time frames, etc)
Work on the basis that TM1 will be able to do pretty much anything that someone doing Budgeting & Planning could want/need and then work backwards from what they ask you to build by going and finding out how to develop it.
You will find that all the standard resources may provide you with knowledge of some basic concepts but probably wouldn't be all that applicable to what you have actually been asked to build.
