My client wants new TM1 to be designed along the DWH conformed dimension Model. What i understand is conformed dimension is needed when one dimension table is linked with more than one fact table. How conformed dimension is relevant in TM1,if it is then what is the best practice? Thanks

In TM1 any dimension is by definition a shared dimension, therefore a 'conformed dimension' that can be used in multiple cubes (corresponding to fact tables in a relational DWH).

There are circumstances where TM1 still needs separate dimensions which conform. Here are two that I can think of.

1. Two cubes hold data at different levels of the same hierarchy, e.g targets at the sales region level and plan at the seller level. In this case there would need to be a dimension for each level.

2. Bill of materials, where the recipe needs to have two dimensions, one for the production components and one for the production outputs. However outputs can be WIP which can be components of subsequent recipes. Here the restriction is that a cube cannot contain the same dimension twice to avoid ambiguity in the rule syntax.

In both of these instances it will be necessary for the dimensions concerned to be built in a coordinated way from common sources.
