cognos express 10.1 installation error

hello all,

I am attempting to install cognos 10.1 on my laptop. i previously had cognos express 9.5 but now with excel 2010 supported I can finally start playing around. However, I am getting the following error
Current informix install detected. An installation of Informix was found on this machine. IBM Cognos Express and Informix cannot co-exist as the same host.


This is what I have done leading up to this error
1. Unistalled Cognos express 9.5
2. Attempted to install Cognos Express 10.1 - got an error (this happened a few weeks ago cant remember the details - but it no longer occurrs)
3. Unstalled Cognos Express 10.1
4. Installed cognos express 10.1
5. Error!! As soon as the install window pops up and I click ok.....viola ERROR.

After googling for a short period of time, it was mentioned that Cognos express creates a User group called "Informix - Admin". I deleted this group and the error still persists.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What happens when you apply the steps outlined by the IBM Technote 1411313 ?

When you say "install on your laptop" as far as I am aware CX 10.1 is currently only compatible with 64-Bit Servers (Server 2008 or 2003).
I haven't been able to find a "partner" version as was available with 9.5 and allowed installation on Windows 7 and XP etc... I may be wrong and if I am please point me towards the installer?

The above isn't the problem you are experiencing however and the technote supplied by moby91 should cover that as it was an issue I experienced with CX9.5; you may find that when uninstalling CX9.5 it left a component which is associated with informix behind and some of them can be devious little blighters with a taste for hide and seek!

But on my original point I managed to install CX10.1 on a copy of XP (or possibly Windows 7 can't quite remember) and it was basically useless due to the constant incompatibilities... so you may find an issue or 2... unless you are using a virtual environment on your laptop.

Thanks Moby91 - that resolved the issue.

Declanr - I am installing directly on my Windows 7 laptop. As for the version, I received it from our sales guy and I think your right it is for Server 2008/2003.

I am hoping I can at least play around with a few components, mainly cognos insight and performance modeller.

Didn't have this issue but did not have CE 9.5 on my laptop.

Does it work on a fresh client?
