Office 2007 Security Update and TM1 9.4.1

Post by ccpr20 »

An office update just ran in our office this morning and now we are getting the following error:

Compile error in hidden module: mMacros

We cannot open TM1 now. Our IT department thinks it's the following updates that are causing the problem.

KB2598041
KB2596781

They can't seem to figure out how to roll these back. We are on TM1 9.4 MR 1 (9.4.1). It is slowing knocking out all of our users as the automatic update runs. Anyone else run into this? I am the non-tech admin for the system. What direction should we go with this? Try to rollback the updates or contact Cognos? Thanks for your help.

Can't say that I've had the questionable pleasure of running 9.4 (which I did only briefly anyway) and 2007 together. However I did note this suggestion in the MS release notes which I suggest you try; I recall this issue causing me problems once before (with a different installation) and the recommended solution resolved them:
To resolve this issue, delete the cached versions of the control type libraries (extender files) on the client computer. To do this, search your hard disk for files that have the ".exd" file name extension and delete all the .exd files that you find. These .exd files will be re-created automatically when you use the new controls the next time that you use VBA. These extender files will be under the user's profile and may also be in other locations, such as the following:
C:\documents and settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms

C:\documents and settings\username\AppData\Local\Temp\VBE
My second thought would be to try uninstalling the TM1 client from an affected machine and reinstalling it. It may be that the update screwed up some library references and a reinstallation will fix that, but I'd definitely go for the .exd deletion option first.

Thanks for the reply. You were right. Our IT department resolved the issue. From IT:

The errors that end users were reporting were:

"System Error &H80040111 (-2147221231). ClassFactory cannot supply requested
class"

"Object library invalid or contain references to object definitions that could not be found"

"Compile error in hidden module: mMacros"

The fix is as follows:

1) Go to c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\forms.
Delete or rename any files with the .exd extension.

2) Start up TM1 - it should work.

3) If it pops up with another error message, run a repair on Office 2007 in Add/Remove
Programs. Reboot and then delete the .exd files.
