Hey All.

I'm somewhat of a noob to TM1 and have been implementing TM1 Cognos 10. The environment is 64 bit Win Server 2008 R2 with the appropriate versions of TM1 and Cognos BI(runtime) utilized for security authentication. This information really isn't relative to my question but I just read the post rules and want to follow the letter of law. Although I do have questions about config that I will put in another post. Anyway..back on topic. I need to created an allocation which will spread numbers for a default 0 brand into other brands within the same dimension. I have a cube which contains the following:

Cube: Reporting - This is where the spread needs to take place.
Dims: Brand(0,1,2..), Location(10,20,30..), Department(100, 200, 300..), Period, Account(1000,2000...), Versions(Actual, Actual(Spread), Budget)

Allocation Profile - I createed this thinking I could utilize to assemble a rule...just ran out of gas/intellect...so here I am.
Dims: Brand(0,1,2..), Alloc_Profile(Alloc 1, Alloc 2.. With attributes for Location and Department)

The combination of Location and Department make up a % to be applied from Brand 0 to the others within the same dimension for Actual(Spread) in the Reporting cube.

I'm very fresh with rules and any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I guess the first question I would ask do all the brands 0 and the rest roll up in to a all brands consolidation? The reason I ask is that this could lead to possible complications if you are looking to do the allocations within the same cube.

Yes. 0 brands and the rest roll into an All Brands consolidation. I don't necessarily need to do this within the same cube and I'm open to creation of new cubes to manage. Just looking for direction.

Here's what I did. Which works well but I still need to sort out the feeders to improve performance. Considering this post only had one response I don't have much expectation this will do any better.

Created a two dimensional cube containing a Allocation Profile with Location and Department as attributes and the Brand dimension. This cube was populated with the % to be distributed from the 00 brand to the individual brands. Also created a reporting allocation cube with the same dimensions for reporting: Brand, Account, Period, Measures(Actual, Actual(Allocated)) and the Allocation profile dimension above. I then created a Rule to populate all Brands with the 00 brand balance for Actuals. From there I created a calculation for Actual(Allocations) to multiply the Actual from the Reporting Allocation by the Allocation Profile percentages and voila. It works well enough for now however I need to clean up the feeders to improve performance a bit.

You'll probably get a better response if you ask a question instead of providing a dissertation on what you did and then asking for comments. I didn't make any comments on your first post because I didn't know what you were expecting me to provide. Like most of us, I have a day job and only have a limited amount of time to contribute. I can't be guessing what people want. The other thing I would say is it's probably not a good idea to post a snarky comment about lack of responses. Free help is what it is...free.

Normally, people have a crack at their cubes/ rules/ etc and when they get stuck they will then ask a question, in the forum, about that problem. If they provide the rules/ feeders they are struggling with and the dimension orders of the cubes they are working with then often it is the case that the problem can be solved with that information. Your request for advice was a bit more on the 'structural' side and that very much depends on the business context you are working in, both in terms of the make-up of the business and the way in which you want to populate a forecast.

The proposal in your first post sounds pretty reasonable, and so its hard to add anything further of value. If you are struggling with a feeder then perhaps you can post the code and you will probably get a few people who will try and assist you solve the issue.
