TM1 Source Control / Issue Tracking

Post by jameswebber »

Hi Guys,
I’m interested in how others handled version/source control in TM1 at the moment.
I hear (via Twitter) in the Melbourne BA forum yesterday TM1 source control is going to be a future enhancement.

Currently we use rule and dimension Spreadsheets and copy take a copy of these sheets and date them before updating.
We have no version control at all on TI chores and processes.

Coming from and IT background we tend to do most other development in Visual Studio and check this into subversion (http://subversion.apache.org/) linking it to bugs in JIRA (http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/overview)

Currently we are reviewing use of source control generally and may go down the MS team foundation server (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms364074.aspx) route but if there was a good tool for TM1 source control this would help.

Just wondering what other TM1 people do about source control and issue tracking

That will be fricken awesome. I'm getting myself very confused with three instances at the moment. And at least there's only me, it'd be even worse if there were a team of developers.

I have used Jira for bug tracking in the past and think it's very very good. Not least because you can get started with 10 users for $10. Though the setup is pretty complex - or at least was when I did it. Mostly because there's half a dozen different ways of doing it and it's not clear which is the basic, dumbed down version that your average punter should be using.
Please do not send technical questions via private message or email. Post them in the forum where you'll probably get a faster reply, and everyone can benefit from the answers.

I should say likely to be a future enhancement (http://bit.ly/x9aU4K) I wouldn't hold my breath ;-)

Martin,
I think Jira is pretty easy to install now (version 5) if you did ever get stuck though feel free to give me a call/email
