My TM1 cfg has MaximumViewSize = 200
I was inform using Windows Task Manager can help what amount of memory to set.
Does anyone know how to use Windows Task Manager to get an idea about the amount of memory?

Go to the Processes tab. In the View menu, you'll have the choice of "Select Columns...", one of which is Mem Usage.

You may also want to look at using the TM1 Performance Monitor. (Right click on the server and select Start Performance Monitor. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF LOGGING ON THE }Stats CUBES FIRST, OR YOU'LL END UP WITH HUGE LOG FILES!)

This can give you a better indication of actual memory usage than Windows Task Manager. Task manager is somewhat opaque since when a TM1 server grabs memory, it doesn't release it until the server shuts down. This is the memory shown as being "in garbage" in the Performance Monitor.

Well i would say go and have a look at the best practices on the cognos support site, but seeing as i've just wasted half my day looking for them (or anything useful on TM1) on the IBM "support" pages, i wouldn't bother. I've never seen a website so impossible to navigate than i have that IBM one. The Cognos site wasn't great when compared to the ease of use we got with the Applix one, but at least i eventually found what i wanted there...

I have a gigantic workbook/spreadsheet about the size of 24k KB ( 24 meg)
Whenever the magic key F9 / shift F9 is entered, it knock down the server that has 2.6G memory space, but it come back up within 10 seconds, it's like a Yo-YO bouced off and come backed up again. The major implication when the server is off, all clients got disconnected at client level but not at server level, the administrator had to get back into the client security property to disconnect one after another and it there are 40 clients, can you imagine how it can be.

I will try that out on Monday at work and see how it goes.

At least you've found the time to set up your "Doing Business With IBM" logins and such. I still have to set aside enough to read through the oceans of dross that they've spewed in my direction in both e-mail and registered mail format.

It's no surprise that "Lean" and "Straightforward" are not entries in the IBM Computing Dictionary.

Not sure that MaximumViewSize is your issue.

MaximumViewSize controls the size of views in the cube viewer and (I assume) any dynamic slices and maybe (?) direct slices with a =VIEW (blah) statement on them somewhere, usually cell A1.

If you exceed the maximum you (should) get a warning message rather than the server shutting itself down. It sounds to me like you are close to the RAM limits of your application and the TM1 server is shutting itself down or you are on a buggy release that doesn't like doing any work.

How much RAM does the server use when it starts up?
