This operating system is not adequate for running TM1??

_Strange_ message received when installing 32-bit 9.5.2 on an Amazon EC2 instance of Server 2008 - 32 bit, 1.7gig ram, 1 core.
64 bit installs and runs fine on a 64 bit instance.
Ideas?

I think that message means you need to use Windows Server 2008 R2 not just Server 2008.

So you've installed a TM1 server in the cloud? I can see where the server would work but what about client connectivity. What ports did you have to open up on your firewall to be able to communicate with the server? I'd love to hear more about this.

Like HWL said, it has to be Win2008 R2 - there's actually an OS test in the install media that denies the install (as you have found).

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.
Turns out the vanilla EC2 instances for Server2008 are 2008R2 X64 or 2008 non R2 X86. X64 wasn't available in 'small' and I was trying to save money. There a bunch of non-vanilla images available but they are poorly documented - time to dig around on the forums.
@Tomok, at present, I'm just planning to use RDP. If you wanted to connect Perspectives then the ports to open would be the same as in other firewalls - from memory, 5495 for the admin server plus the port your TM1 server is on. But given TM1's notorious volubility I'm not sure how usable it would be.

Hi innovativecode,

The reason for this is because some instance sizes (m1.small, c1.medium) are only available for 32-bit operating systems and Server 2008 R2 is only available as x64. The x64 limitation is from Microsoft; They never created a 32-bit version of R2. You can instead run Server 2008 unless you require features specific to R2.

Best regards,
Nathan

Agree that direct connection is probably a no-go, but I'd love to hear how it works if you have the opportunity to test. Performance may also depend upon which data center your instance runs in and where you access it from. Does EC2 support RemoteApp or do you need to run a full RDP connection?

I agree that connecting with a cloud server using Perspectives would probably be "iffy", knowing how chatty it is and all the problems I've experienced with it at clients with WANS. However, TM1Web should work pretty good. I'm really interested in this more from a development perspective as this looks like a real economical way to work collaboratively when you've got team members at different locations and not all of them or on the same corporate network.
