Local Server

Hello All,

I am visiting one of our other offices tomorrow but will be unable to connect to our server.

Therefore what I want to do is set up a local server this is what I have done so far:

Copied the Live data folder to my C:

In file options (Server explorer) change the admin host to be Lap170 (My laptop name)

and changed the local server directory to point to the folder I created.

Unfortunately when I try to start local server it just locks up and I have to kill it in task manager.

I think that maybe my laptop cannot handle it but has anyone got any views.

Regards

Lee

Depends what you mean by locks up and how long you waited.

If you are moving a standard 32 bit TM1 server that does not exceed the 2GB memory limit, the chances are that it will run on your laptop. Depending on the power of the processor and how much memory you have it could take a very long time to start though. When starting a server as an application it does tend to sit for a while and do nothing before it starts loading cubes and dimensions.

The usual approach is to
1. Delete large cubes that you are not interested for the purposes of whatever it is your trying to do.
2. If 1 is not possible, use a dev environment to clear versions and or periods of data until you get the server down to a reasonable size.

Not sure if thats any help or not.
Cheers,

Steve thanks for your reply.

It was the lack of RAM on my laptop that was the problem and cause my comp to grind to a holt.

I did what you said and remove large cubes that were not needed and this did the trick.

Local server loads in a minute and I have what I need for my meeting.

Thanks for your help.
