WS2008R2 -Anyone tried this with TM1 90 64 Bit?

Post by John Hammond »

We are currently WS2003 TM1 90 64 Bit.

When we move to 9.5.2 we would like to use the virtualisation features of 2008R2 to run test systems etc

We would be interested to hear from those who've tried this or have any advice on O/S upgrades with TM1.

Would using VMWare under WS2003 be simpler?

TIA.

I have Oracle virtual box running on my laptop running w2003 32-bit and w2008 64-bit. I have 9.5.2 running on both. Also I have just upgraded a customer from 9.1 to 9.5.2. I have not seen any issues with my laptop install but I did bump in to a couple of problem at the customer:

1) With the change of company you to make sure you change your (SSL) certificate location to able to connect in architect.
2) They found that when connecting 9.1 clients to 9.5.2 some users experience random disconnects. Upgrading the client to 9.5.2 solved this issue.

The second issue is the one I would keep an eye on,

Jim.

Thanks for your reply Jim

Its good to hear that the client can run fine under a VM. What we were thinking of attempting was to run a test version of our 952 server on the same box as our 90 instance.

Iam assuming you cannot do this without virtualisation because of .dll hell etc with one different version getting in the way of the other and with the requirement that there is only one admin server per machine.

Naturally it will be slower but I assume again a server will still be useable running on a VM, but this will get round the above problems.

Would be interested if there are any snags in this approach.

TIA.
