TM1 Web - Websheets Opens as Excel Files Excel 2007

Hello All,

I am on TM1 9.5.2 and have both Excel 2003 and 2007 installed on the web server. Once the excel files are published on the Application folder Excel 2003 open up as Websheets but Excel 2007 does not open up as websheet; It prompts to open the sheet on Excel even though it's on the Internet browser.

I have seen this issue being discussed on a couple of threads but it appears that this issue remained unresolved (permanent fix). I tried stopping TM1 Excel Service (didn't help). I then tried to reboot the server which fixed the issue on my first attempt (Websheet opened on .xlsx file) but then the issue again re-appeared on my second attempt.

I would really appreciate any pointers, as this would save me a lot of time/pain in reformatting worksheets into Excel 2003 from 2007.

Regards, Ashwin

Hi ashwinchitkara,

Can you post the relevant TM1Web log lines (by default in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\TM1Web\log\tm1web.log).

Cheers!

Is there any reason why you have two versions of Excel on the Web Server? I would recommend that you stick to one. From my own experience, I had to abandon Excel 2007 and revert back to Excel 2003 because there were two many colour and other formatting issues. What was a nice yellow in 2003 came out puce green in 2007, and cells overflowed, etc.

I believe that there are certain files that have references to the Excel version, and we had a lot of trouble with these when we put Excel 2010 on, which required a complete rebuild. However, I believe that support for Excel 2010 is better in 9.5.2.

I would be interested in peoples views. Most companies I have seen are still using Excel 2003. Some are planning to jump straight from Excel 2003 to 2010, because they did not like the amount of re-training required for Excel 2007, and Excel 2010 has removed some of the more extreme changes made in Excel 2007.

Hi Paul,

I tend to agree with you.

Most companies that already had Excell 2003 did not want to upgrade to 2007 for TM1 (or, in some cases, did not want to upgrade period).

But for new clients, 2007 was used with good results.

Cheers!

Except maybe for the huge performance issues of the TM1 Ribbon?

CSJean,

Sorry! I rolled back to my backup version which had only Excel 2003, since I have some urgent deliverable and couldn't wait to find a fix. I can test this on my laptop which only has Excel 2007 and get back to you as I still see the issue out there.

Thanks
