Hi, we are thinking about a stage concept with a dev, QA and prod server. Is there any reasonable way to transfer object between the servers?
or do I have to transfer object (rules, processes etc.) via copy on disc level? I know from IBM Cognos Planning a deployment wizard is there any
similiar possibility?
Thx for answers
Carsten

There are a lot of posts you can find on this subject by using the oh-so-obscure Search function.

Actually I think carsten is raising a valid issue - moving changes from server for server (Dev->UAT->Live) is much more manual than it should be.
Out of interest, the IT function at a client of ours has asked us about using IBM Rational Clearcase
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/awdtools/clearcase/
To manage TM1 changes. IBM said they didn't know whether it worked, but were happy to spend the client's money researching if it did
My view is it can't possibly, but I thought I'd through this out to the community, just in case I'm wrong. If it does, then why the (*&^ have we had to work without a tool all these years?

The way we have done it at Chase is to keep all dimensions based on uniform TI processes, have processes that copy and comile rules from one server to another and have uniform data loads. Th eonly problem we have is with views but again these can be copied using a script. The only problem is that you need to re-start the service once th view folders have been copied over,

I read the question differently. I think the OP is probably more interested in the process of promoting dimensions, subsets, cubes, views, processes, etc. Although obviously application entries are part of the puzzle.qml wrote:There are a lot of posts you can find on this subject by using the oh-so-obscure Search function.

I know of at least one commercially available product that can handle moving objects between servers with a drag and drop without needing a server restart. But in terms of true version control and check-in, check-out, rollback to prior release, restore, etc. the TM1 development environment is still very much a DIY affair. I imagine a great many of us are looking forward to this situation changing at some point.
