32 bit install on 64 bit server

I've installed a 32 bit version of 8.4.5 on a 64 bit server. Testing had been pretty good and we were getting some good performance gains from the more up-to-date hardware.

However, today the service crashed with an unhelpful MS error message (below). Is this likely to be an ongoing problem? Anyway of isolating the cause? Does the error report actually tell me anything? I don't think anyone was doing anything with the server at the time - the transaction log is empty at any rate.

Any thoughts, comments, insights?

Martin

Damn thats useful. not. Were you tracking the server memory usage at the time, not sure but i think a 32bit install is still constrained to a 3GB per application limit...

Hmm. Could be it. I've got it up to 2.13GB just now without it crashing but can't get it any higher. Still worth a try.

I haven't made any changes to the boot.ini file on the 64 bit server and I can't find anything on the old Applix forum (because the %&!* developer was too lazy to allow multiple search terms!) about it.

Do I need to apply any parameters to the boot.ini on a 64 bit server to ensure it addresses more than 2GB memory?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin,

32 bit TM1 on a 64 bit server should be able to access 4GB RAM without having to make any changes.
