My organisation are looking at virtualising their server provision later in the year. Currently we have two standalone servers running 9.5.1, and a seperate Citirx provision that handles the client and remote access.

I have spoken to IBM who have informed me that TM1 will operate on a virtual server, and that it is fully supported.

Has anyone else been through the process of migrating from a standalone server to a virtual environment? Does anyone have any advice, or reccomendations of whether to take this approach, or stick with the current standalone configuration?

I have done numerous installations on a virtual server and it really is no different than installing on a stand-alone machine. You still have to make the same decisions as to how many processors and how much RAM for TM1. The only difference in the virtual environment is you make that decision in a software setting (allocating those resources to TM1) while on a stand-alone box whatever is on the box is automatically available to TM1. I personally prefer a virtualized environment because once you have that image it is extremely easy to move from machine to machine for disaster recovery purposes.

same as Tomok, been running 5 servers here for over 3 years and no issues other than our IT not balancing loads correctly on one host. Sorted that eventually, it really behaves no different to a standard server.

Hi Kirk, let me know how you get on - I am in the same boat, they are currently building me a virtual server for 9.5.1. I'm not expecting any quirks specifically because its virtual, but if you come across anything unusual then please post!
