"Views" in TM1Web

Hi

Please bear with me..I am quite new to Cognos Express.

I have created public views to produce classic slice reports. These reports are then published to the Applications folder on TM1Web. We have given "Cognos Express Users" group write access to the cubes that form part of the report so they can write data to the cubes & select the subset editor for the dimensions.

The users' view in TM1Web now lists all cube "views" for the cubes they have write access to, under the Views folder. Is there any way you can hide these cube views from the user so they just have the "New view..." option & the ability to see their own private views?

We have quite a few reports to build & therefore the "views" list a user sees in TM1Web could end up quite long...

Thanks
Terri

Hi Terri,

I'm a little confused by what you say you've done. You say you have created Views, sliced them to Excel, then published them as Applications. Are the users reading/writing in the View or in the Application?

If they are using the Application you can set specific access rights on these, but as for Views - if a View is public then everyone will be able to see it in both Explorer and Web.

If you are just creating the View to then create the Application, can you not delete it when done, and have people use the Application?

Hi Christopher

Thanks for your help & reply. I didn't know it was possible to delete views without affecting the relating Applications. Does this only apply to classic slices or can you also delete views created when creating Active Form slices?

Many thanks
Terri

"Applications" in TM1, despite the fancy name, is really nothing more than a secured folder where you can store objects like spreadsheets, views, TI processes, etc. In the case of spreadsheets, whether they are active forms or not, they actually get stored in the Applications folder (well, sort of) so when you delete them from the folder they are gone forever. In the case of Views, Subsets, and TI processes, they are actually just pointers to the real objects elsewhere in the server explorer tree. If you delete an underlying View, Subset or TI process, the link in your Applications folder will be broken and won't work. Howefer, don't confuse this with views you use to create an active form in an excel sheet. These views are only used by the active form during the creation of the active form ranges in the sheet. Once it is complete, such views can be deleted without affecting the operation of the active form.
