Hi,
When I extracted my TM1 installer archive, inside I can find another archive named C8_TM1_Portlets_win32_8.4.28.4.tar.gz.
Can anyone please tell me what will it install and what's the use of it?

I've try to look at the Installation Guide and the only Portlets I can found is this:

Before you can use the TM1 Viewer Portlets to view existing TM1 cube views and websheets, you
must install them and, if the TM1 data servers are secured against IBM Cognos 8, configure access
to IBMÂ® CognosÂ® 8 from the TM1 Viewer Portlets.
If you no longer use TM1 data sources or plan to upgrade, you can uninstall the TM1 Viewer
Portlets.

Any helps are very much appreciated. Thanks.

Installs Cognos 8 BI components. It goes on BI servers, but BI does not need it unless you install TM1: thus the location for the install media. It also installs some files needed for TM1 Contributor (if you are using C8 security in Contributor). If you're not using portlets or TM1 Contributor, you don't need to worry about it.

I do use TM1 Contributor and I'm using C8 security as well. But I don't remember installing it before.
How will it affect the C8 security?

Maybe on 8.4 it's not needed: on 8.4.1/9.5.1 it creates the variables_TM1.xml file (which has the URLs back to TM1 web). Provides the links in the environment for the servers to find each other

So it will only create variables_TM1.xml, and nothing else?
On 8.4 / 9.5.0, this variables_TM1.xml is required as well but I created this manually (a.k.a from scratch) because the manual said that C8 security needs this file.
