In case you have not seen this, there is announcement on IBM website about Cognos 10 launch. To view the details check out this link in IBM site.

I guess TM1 will move to version 10 along with rest of the IBM Cognos suite! Hopefully it should result in more integration between BI and TM1.

Does anyone know if there is any change to existing TM1 architecture?

I've seen some of the plans for 9.5.2 and there are some important changes, but they are evolutionary rather than any sort of start-from-scratch rebuild.

As far as building things is concerned the architecture looks like it'll be the same.

Not sure what they'll do with the numbering. Last I heard, the next release of TM1 was still being called 9.5.2.

I've not heard of any architecture changes either; not really much point, given that the engine is its principal strength. The last real change was the locking model which caused (or at least coincided with) memory bloat, but I don't think that they care so much about that these days; the proposed solution being "just buy 64 bit and a bigger server".

I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers of both TM1 and EV were aligned with Cognos; after all TM1 skipped 9.2 and 9.3 presumably to align with EV, and what turned out to be 9.0 was being called 8.5 almost right up to the point of release.

A rose by any other name and all that...

Will probably have more to do with pulling in SPSS and other recent acquisitions - probably too early for Netezza. It's 10 because they need the version numbers to line up (Cognos has a long history of doing that with their acquisitions - IBM wouldn't change that yet). It's too hard to sell integration on baseline products if one side is 8.4.1 and the other is 9.5.2.

Yesterday during the IBM Symposium in VIenna was just hte announcement of the Launch. But actual it is not downloadable fpr Customers and Partners. The Real Launch with the first Live Presentation is on 4th of November. ( for Vienna )

And the Version of Congos is Version 10 but the Version of TM1 is 9.5.2. There is from TM1 side a lot of changes and new functionality but you can use any TM1 Server which is mirgrated from previous Version. And Guys trust me there is a lot of new things in Version 10 rom Cognos not only the Intigration from SPSS ^^

Have a gut night and ask your IBM or COGNOS Contacts where the real Live Presentation is in your own region

I participated in an IBM partners webinar on Friday. We were told that, because of IBm revenue recognition rules, we are not allowed to use or mention the name Cognos N (where N may be an integer between 9 and 11) or talk about any possible future release or announcement of a release! At least until 2.15pm (Las Vegas time) when Rob Ashe may (or may not) be presenting the predecessor to Cognos 11.

For those who would like more information you should watch the extremely informative video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBbVehzWLKA

I see life with IBM getting even more complicated in the near future. 9.5.1 has been out for a while but i got an email last night notifying me of the release of .... 9.5.1. The date on the web suggests its a rollup of the various patches that have been coming out, but using the same version number (probably to avoid clashing with Cognos 11 - 1 which is currently known as 9.5.2) just sets them up for support hell.

Nice way to start a Monday at least...

That thar horse bolted from the stable when they issued a 9.5 release which had a 9.5.1 executable number even though it wasn't really 9.5.1.

Mind you, if they're in doubt they'll probably ask for the server log to clue in on what the "real" version is.

These days I go either to that, or straight to right clicking on the executable because I swear I can't remember which bucket'o'numbers (TM CognosAnIBMCompany) has been thrown at which version.

There is also this tip which I had forgotten about.

Did anyone join the simulcast? Anything interesting mentioned in the simulcast, especially anything about TM1 if any?
I missed it because it was daybreak here

Nothing specifically on TM1 (or it's not immediately obvious), but the web site for the Cognos 10 launch is here. Rather than the technical underpinnings, however, the site goes long on the "unified BI workspace" which seems to be the signature feature, and is effectively a customisable web dashboard.

There are quite a few videos, some of which are the usual motherhood fluff that makes you want to bash your head on the desk. ("You need business intelligence to make decisions!" Really? Ya think? ) Others give more of an insight into what the tools are about. There's a lot to get through, but I'll probably watch most of them in due course.

Haven't found anything in the way of documentation downloads for 9.5.2 (which is apparently the version that is under the hood of Cognos 10)... yet.

I only caught the tail end of it. The only mention of TM1 I heard was that it ran 80% faster under Cognos 10 that Cognos 8. In general it is much faster.

There is a capability to do a certain amount of offline reporting, which looked pretty slick. The reports were still interactive. Not sure how much data gets downloaded to do these reports.

The stories I heard from someone who saw a brief demo in Sydney said "evolution" rather than the "step-change" that IBM is talking it up as.

According to @GregBonnette 's tweet http://twitter.com/GregBonnette/status/28731360993 :
OH in Q&A: 80% Performance improvement in #Cognos10 vs. Cognos 8.4.1 when accessing TM1 data. #baforum #iodgc
So, that suggests TM1 is not faster, it is just Cognos that is not as slow to pull the data from TM1.
Anyway it is hard to comment without actually getting the exact details on how they arrived to that magically round 80%.

We had music, we had fireworks, we had a huge 10 on the stage and thousands in the audience.

It was all pretty high level but from the TM1 perspective I saw 3 benefits:

1) write back to TM1 from Cognos BI

2) faster performance (80% faster, not sure it that means going from 10 seconds to 2 seconds or 10 sseconds to 8 seconds). Performance improvment was a general theme of COG 10 and they were quoting much bigger performance improvements for other areas.

3) "Active reports", allowing users to do browser based analysis of COg 10 BI reported data off-line using "mth" format. I had confirmation this would work with TM1 data though clealry there may be volume issues.

NO changes to TM1 itself though TM1 9.5.1 is Cog 10 ready.

Other themes were,
- "improved user experience" nicer look and feel
- single workspace ( rather than multiple studios)
- better graphs
- real-time reporting updates
- easier migration ( "not an upgrade") from Cog 8 and better tools to help with this and general lifecycle management
