Hi All,
We need to tag a flag to every element in a dimension with the result of a date calculation. We need to check if (Today's date - Start date) > n, then Flag = 'Y' else 'N' etc. The start date is an attribute of the dimension. How do we do this in TM1?

This is quite a straightforward requirement. Have you read the Date and Time Rules Functions section of the TM1 Reference manual?
