subnm - I can choose an element but it doesn't appear

I've got a process fired from an action button that adds a new element to a dimension. Once I've added it I try to select it via subnm formula. It appears in the subset editor and I can select it but it doesn't then appear in the cell. If I recalculate the sheet however, it then works. I'm on 9.4.1 FP3. Is this a bug or a feature? Can anyone suggest a workaround? It's not a showstopper, just annoying!
