Isolating Excel Performance

I was wondering, we currently have developed a application with more than 50 cubes with the data directory about 1 GB. I tried testing it on the production server on a 32-bit 4 GB Memory Server. And client PC are usually of Core 2 Duo Specs & 2GB Memory. When we tried to test the template it takes a while to open. But if I set up a duplicate server on a laptop and the client PC accessing is Intel D... the performance isn't as bad it seem on the production environment.

What are the best way to isolate the problem. How can we resolve performance issues. Since we assume other users accessing other applications that probably slow down the client unit from opening Excel rather than the VBA code itself on the template. They access the template via the server's shared folder.

Is there a best practice you guys can share on how to best create TM1 Templates and the amount of VBA coding that should be done to avoid any performance issue with excel alone during workbook open and its connection with TM1 during the process? Since we plan to deploy from different site without using Citrix.
