Can't start Tm1sd.exe as service as user service-IBM_cognos

Hi,

It runs fine as the local system account but I can't get the TM1 server to run as a service as user service-IBM_cognos. I am running TM1 9.5 on win2003 R2 x64 SP2.

When I start a service, it changes to a status of starting but gives the error "The service did not respond to the start control request in a timely fashion". Moreover the service hangs with a status of starting. I can't start or stop it through services.

This applies both to the Planning Sample server and others that I have added via the command line. However, the Planning Sample service was started succesfully by the TM1 install process. It wasn't until I stopped it that I couldn't then start it again.

Has anyone come across this or have any suggestions?

Cheers,
Alex

Have you checked that the user "service-IBM_cognos" has the appropriate permissions? In particular it will need to have write access to both the data and logging directories.

Thanks Martin, I'll check that out. What I failed to mention though, is that the installer started the Planning Sample server upon it's completion running as service-IBM_cognos. I have stopped this service only for it to hang as above when I tried to restart it as that user.

That does sound odd, but as far as I remember (haven't done an install for a while), the username is determined by what you specify as the admin user when you did the install. It's possible that your IT guys set up a temporary admin account for you to do the install, and have since revoked its privileges.

The account does exist and the permissions look OK. The point release of the server is 9.5.00100.2380 x64. I've run into a few niggles with our setup, not sure at this stage if this build is to blame but will try to detail when (if) I get to the bottom of them
