TM1 does not log cells lost when Dimension is Deleted

If you are using the logs to try and work out where data went please be aware that TM1 does not log under this circumstance.

It also does not log any changes to a dimension so it becomes very difficult to track problems and I think this is something IBoglix should address if it is to be considered a mature product.

It never has, and I wouldn't expect it to since it's not a data change. If you delete a cube, it's hardly surprising if the data in the cube is no longer there and I wouldn't expect to see the log file showing all of the values reverting to zero; same principle for the deletion of an element. (Which I assume is what you're referring to since you can't delete a dimension if it's being used by a cube.)

That's in fact a useful feature since it allows data to be blown away quickly without either turning off logging or ending up with a hugely bloated log file. It's up to the Admin to make sure that metadata is only changed when it's intended to be; it shouldn't be the responsibility of the software to anticipate each and every potential bad admin practice.

Page 100 of the 9.5 Operations manual:
The TM1 audit log monitors changes to metadata, such as modifications to dimensions, views and subsets. This log can be used for accountability purposes where laws or regulations, such as Sarbanes- Oxley, require auditing of certain activities in mission critical software. Each TM1 server maintains its own separate audit log.
It was a heavily promoted feature of 9.5.

As always Alan thank you for your response.

The TM1 audit feature is an excellent tool and because it did not appear in the tm1s.cfg docs I had, I was unaware of it. Apologies to IBM/Cognos/Applix - you can check your dimension changes.
