Date Dimension - Best Practices

Post by ParisHilton »

Hi all, hope you can help with a fundamental problem we're facing?

Is there a best practice for creating a date dimension, or a guide to what our options might be?

We are trying to build a TM1 solution for Cognos BI reporting. We'd like to have all the goodies of being able to
easily aggregate up from day, to month to year
be able to aggregate data in financial or calendar years (different hierarchies)
be able to aggregate data by weeks
be able to display day, week, month names, or year-month , or day-month-year. ie a really flexible system, I'm guessing I want to use attributes here?
allow reports to run against current month, or YTD or other similarly common periods.

I am sure none of this is particularly easy, but there must be solutions out there that play nicely with cognos BI?

Hi Paris,

See the "Time Dimension - 1d vs 2d" post in the "Cube Design" section of the FAQ post.

Cheers,
Martin
