Hey Everyone:

What are doc cubes? How are they created? Can they be created through TI Process?

Thanks in advance:)

Friendly piece of advice: the clearer you can make your question, the more likely it is that someone will give you the answer you want ;)

What do you mean by a 'doc cube' ? Do you mean a cube that contains documentation about your other TM1 cubes and dimensions and so on ?

You can make a cube in TI by using the CubeCreate command.

Hey Thanks Loadz, I`ll surely keep that in mind from now on :).

Yes, my question was regarding the documentation cubes. I wanted to know what would be the possible way of designing them. My client wants me to create separate doc cubes for processes, cubes and dimensions. Will I need to create documentation manually in a flat file and then loaded into the doc cubes or there is another way.

I hope my question is more clear now. 8-)

Thanks for your help again.

There's no automation of documentation that comes with vanilla TM1. There are some add-ins such as Duncan Turner's TM1pedia and this one from BI Hints that will help you get started, but they won't do the whole job for you.

Beyond these tools, all documentation has to be manually written whether in a Word document, Visio or in a TM1 cube. Unless you're on 9.4 or higher, writing the documentation in TM1 cubes will be quite difficult as each cell is limited to 255 characters.

Within TM1 itself I'd suggest you might have one cube that has the }Cubes dimension and a string field where you can write a one liner explaining it's general purpose, plus good comments in your rules and TI processes.

For the real meaty documentation though there's no real alternative to writing a Word document - and perhaps a Visio chart accompanying it, which can be useful to show the data flow.

Thanks a ton, Martin. I am on 9.4, so Character limit won`t be a problem.
