how to Plug in Power point with TM1 EV

Post by rduggs »

Hey Everyone:

I am new to TM1 and I wanted to know how to plug in power point with Tm1 Executive Viewer. I was able to find material on how to export reports from EV to Excel.

Thanks

You can export an EV view to Excel or PDF (complete with hyperlinked TOC for multiple pages "bursting of title dimension subsets" in TM1-speak) which is quite a nice feature, it sounds like you have discovered this already. The problem with this export is that it is static not interactive.

I am guessing that you are wanting to know how to embed an EV control? Here are some simple instructions, this will work in any MS office document not just Powerpoint.

1/ You need to have first installed and registered the EV ActiveX control. To do this just navigate to the EV client in a web browser.
2/ In the office document find "Insert Controls", choose "More Controls" (the hammer & wrench icon), then in the more controls dialog find "IBM Cognos TM1 Executive Viewer Client 9.4" (exact name and version may differ depending on what you have installed)
3/ Draw the dimensions that you want to give the object then right-click to edit the properties (Note: select the custom properties of the EV control NOT the generic ActiveX object properties)
4/ On the "user interface" tab of the properties dialog select "enable tool bar"
5/ In PowerPoint go to slide show mode (in Excel or Word exit design mode) and select a local EV view to open (pvwx file in "My Executive Viewer Views)

That is just a very quick overview to get you started. You can encode the server path and view object in the properties and not have to select a view or show the tool bar (the EV manuals will give you the correct syntax).
