Help on Creating a new landscape

Hi All,
We are upgrading from 2.0.9 to 2.1 and need help in getting the server requirements right.
We currently have 3 servers in 2.0.9 and use contributor for data entry. PAW for reporting and analysis.
Current Landscape:
1. App server --> where the TM1 admin server and all the databases (TM1 servers) reside
2. Web server --> where "IBM Cognos TM1" and "IBM Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services" run.
3. PAW server --> Docker and PAW services reside

With this in mind, when we upgrade to 2.1, do we still need a web server? A web server is required for external facing users and have doubts here.
I installed a PAW server and App server in the new 2.1 server instance and it seems to be working without a webserver. The spreadsheet services are also on the App server. Is this correct install? Can you guide and inform the issues you faced and how it was fixed? Is there anything I am missing?

Thanks,
Paul.

The Web Server (IBM Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services) is optional. If you are going to publish all your reports either in PAW or PAFE then you don't need TM1Web.

Don't you need IBM Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services to run websheets in PAW? For example, if I want to change the proxy timeout for websheets in PAW I need to tweak the Tm1web_config file and restart Spreadsheet Services?

Both PAW and PASS have endpoints for users to access through. Strictly speaking it doesn't matter how you choose to split out these components over which servers but if you want external users to be able to connect those endpoints will need to be exposed to the web meaning firewalls opened, SSL implemented etc...

Typically a dedicated web server would be set up which provides an endpoint for those external users. This can be done by either having paw/pass installed on that server and configured with SSL or a load balancer / proxy is set up with say is is setup on this web server which would then connect to internal servers containing paw or PASS.

An independent web server isn't strictly necessary but it can serve as an extra layer of protection.

Thanks for your inputs Tomok and Burnstripe.
Let's say we have a web server what components can we put on it to add PAW server configuration?

Thanks,
Paul.

Hi,
Just to point out that PASS is required for some PAfE functionality, Universal Reports.

In my experience people don't tend to run a web server. The TM1 DB and PASS goes on the windows box and PAW goes on the RHEL box.

My understanding is that in the medium term there is an expectation that PASS will become part of PAW.

The only reasons that I know of for running a separate Web server would be in heavy usage environments where you want to keep the PASS activity and your TM1 DB activity separate with their own resources. This becomes more significant if you are licenced by PVU and so paying for the resources that are allocated to the TM1 DB.

My understanding is the TM1Web, the UI to PASS will fall away and websheets will need to be embedded into PAW.
To allow PAW to render these websheets, you will need PASS running as the "evaluation service".

Maybe something to clarify on the next AMA as people have a different understanding.

Sure, that might also fit what we've been told...
