We are using Cognos BI only for authentication against 2.0.6 and it works fine. We are upgrading to 2.0.9.14. Any opinions on leaving Cognos BI alone and not upgrading to Cognos Analytics?

It should work fine but if I was upgrading a client, I would upgrade it to cognos analytics.

However some things to bear in mind if you don't upgrade...

Cognos 10 is not compatible with the latest versions of Windows server so if the server runs if you find yourself needing to upgrade the server in future you'll need to move to cognos analytics.

Cognos 10 uses old deprecated cipher suites. Outdated cipher suites may end up being blocked by firewall updates in the future preventing users from logging in entirely. (had this happen before with a client and it took a while to find out their IT had blocked the use of those old ciphers.

It's unsupported so any issues with it you'd have to handle in house or upgrade to cognos analytics before ibm will assist.

There could be issues with compatibility for the content store used for BI in future. Say the content store dB is on sql server and you were trying to upgrade that sql server version, cognos bi may not support the connection to the new version of Sql forcing you to keep out of date dB environments too
