Hello everybody,

I'm always struggling when I try to explain to my family and friends what I'm doing.

How you would explain what is TM1 (and what a TM1 developer is doing) to someone who don't even know what Excel is ?

I've heard the following:

1. LEGO for adults.
2. Mathematical video game.

But the most concise explanation I prefer to use with non-work individuals is:

3. Enterprise-grade Excel spreadsheets.

I build lots of rubik's cubes in a company so that people can play with. That's my job.

To colleagues familiar with pivot tables, I'll often say that TM1 is a collection of pivot tables that you can input data back to.

To acquaintances who don't know pivot tables but know excel, I'll just say TM1 is excel on steroids.

To my mom who is a nurse, I guess I would say that TM1 can be a collection of models used to forecast company financial and operational performance and then report & compare those forecasts vs actual results. If she's not disinterested after that, I would elaborate with an example relevant to her explaining how a staffing model in TM1 can help a financial analyst forecast the number of nurses/doctors (and their respective costs) that will be needed each month of the year based on assumptions like bed capacity, patient demand, minimum staffing requirements, and overtime assumptions.
