Excel 2007 on Web Server: any issues?

Post by harrytm1 »

Hi all,

We have developed some Excel input templates and reports using Excel 2003. We tested on one local PC that is running TM1 Web with Excel 2003 and everything works fine i.e. Websheets rendered correctly and can be snapshot to Excel.

However, when we did the same thing on a PC with Excel 2007, things start to happen. It seems that Excel 07 is pretty strict with formatting and use of text boxes in the XLS file, hence reports will fail to load if Excel 07 fails to convert them to XML.

Also, when we tried to export a Websheet to Excel from TM1 Web and opened it using Excel 2007, the file will fail to load and hang the Excel application.

so the question is, has anyone experienced issues with files created by Excel 03 while web server is running Exce 07, and vice versa? if so, please highlight the issue and the workaround, if any.

Case A:
Files developed by Excel 2003
Web Server on Excel 2007

Case B:
Files developed by Excel 2007
Web Server on Excel 2003

In case B, if the files are created using Excel 07, do we have to deliberately save them as XLS format instead of the default XLSX format? if we save XLSX files as applications in TM1, will the Web Server on Excel 2003 have any difficulties in converting them in Web?

I guess even if we install the Fileconverter from Microsoft into Excel 2003, problems may still occur.

appreciate any advice. thanks.
