Hi, anyone know where can I get the GreatOutdoors TM1 training dataset used in IBM Cognos TM1 9.4: Designed and Developing Applications course? I purchased a copy of the book sometime ago but it did not come with the dataset. I am not sure whom should I contact at IBM or whether they purposedly do not include the dataset with the book.
Thanks

Re: GreatOutdoors TM1 dataset
It seems that the GreatOutdoor sample comes with Cognos BI instead of TM1...
In TM1, there is only a planning sample database..

There are actually two; the newer Planning Sample, and the older sData one (sometimes called "the cars one") which dates back to the earliest days of TM1. But you're right in that it's not one which can be installed from the standard package.kempzhong wrote:It seems that the GreatOutdoor sample comes with Cognos BI instead of TM1...

However Great Outdoors does seem to be the Cognos equivalent of Access' Northwind or SQL Server's Adventure Works, so it would make sense if IBM had expanded it for use with TM1 training as well. Although there's no mention of it on the page, from what Andre was saying it's being used in this course:
http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/servic ... de=P6402#1
The reference to a "book" was interesting too; I didn't know that they'd published one (nor can I find a reference to where it could be purchased), and indeed prior to this thread I didn't know that IBM was conducting a course in TM1 which is as detailed at that one. The older Applix courses were... not well regarded. I have to hand it to IBM, they came up with this course fast, considering the amount of time that it usually takes to bed a takeover down and the fact that they wouldn't have had much to work with from the legacy courses.
However since the training courses are $3.5 grand (USD, no less) a pop, I'd be surprised if they're giving away the samples; certainly I couldn't find any page from which they could be downloaded. On the other hand, it IS the IBM Web site we're talking about; a site where you're lucky to be able to find anything even if you have a searchlight, IR goggles, an AWACS, and the sonar system from a Seawolf class sub.
I was interested to see that one of the subjects covered was:
I wonder if the course includes having the OLAP Forums illuminati lined up, the 1Ders on one side of the room, the 2Ders on the other, complete with the ensuing bar brawl.Discuss time considerations
Use discrete time dimensions
Implement a continuous time dimension model

I'm not really aware of it but I think its best to contact IBM's Training Department since they do all the schedules and printing and logistics related to training. It should at least include the Data Files which is probably abot 20 files since you will be recreating the whole applications from those files. But if you know someone who has the Analysis Training and its data files, you could use those and there are likea few files that you can easily recreate on your own by looking at the manual.

I would assume that IBM own the copyright in Great Outdoors for TM1 and you wouldn't be able to use them unless you had been on their course.

Afaik it is not possible to get copies of the training material from IBM.
I.e. that is what they have told me anyways. You may be able to get somone to provide it to you as an unofficial favor, but at least officially it is not allowed.
Too much money is made on trainings to risk handing the complete material to a third party I guess
