Bills of Material

Post by apozzi »

Hi All!!!

I'm a beginner on TM1.
Learning day by day with the software.
I already read the link below, but I have some basic doubts.
http://www.tm1forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6300

Can you please help me?

I already have a product dimension with all the products.

My biggest problem is to construct a "BOM" dimension, because I don't have a usually hierarchy.
e.g.: my company have a lot of products, and to fabricate one of them I have 4 hierarchies, other I have 7 hierarchies..
I'm trying to use a TI for this.

I supposed that a concatenate method maybe a good option...

Thanks!!!

I have done some BOM modelling in the past. My preferred approach is actually not to create hierarchical bill of material dimensions but to use some helper dimensions (BOM Level & BOM Item) combined with the standard material dimension.

First process to a flat cube storing the BOM information then transpose into a multi-dimensional cube. It does mean holding string measures for material ID to attach to Material-BOM Level-BOM Item combinations so for larger product dimensions the cube can get pretty big. But providing that the maximum number of BOM levels is known and constrained (e.g. not more than 3 levels of semi-finished intermediates between raw materials and finished goods) then the approach works really well and when combined with zero-suppression gives the same analytical possibilities as hierarchies with much less complexity.

Still it's a pretty advanced topic to be starting out with.
Please place all requests for help in a public thread. I will not answer PMs requesting assistance.

Thanks!

What is the best option to start the structure? raw material X products & sub-product or a Std hierarchical BOM?
Just to help a little with this, I need to make for multi-company, this means that some will have 2 products hierarchical other 3, other more than that....
