Multithreaded startup in 9.1+

Can I ask whether forumers use this in anger? I've been trying it on a large, complex model built originally by us and extended by the client, and getting rather poor results - a cut down system (5 years) is happily consuming 7 cores but has been running up for nearly 3 hours (9.1SP4). Is it usable?
