Newbie to TM1

Hello: so I have never used TM1 before. I work for a consulting company and we have a client who has had some issues with TM1 & we are trying to now help them out next week. An example of one of their issues is that when calculating budget totals for various groups (i.e. group A, group B, group C) - some of the groups add up correctly, while a few do not. That seems odd to me (as if there was an error with the totals calculation, the totals for all the groups would be incorrect). I start this project next week and was wondering if there are any recommended guides/tutorials that anyone can point me to? I've worked with Tableau, SSAS, etc (and there is a plethora of forums/online help).

Thanks

The consolidation issue is almost certainly down to incorrect feeders; searching the standard rules guide from IBM you will find a feeder section fairly early on that explains what they are... ignore anyone who says they are complicated - the logic is almost always incredibly simple when you get your head around it.

In terms of guides and training - a lot of consultancies offer TM1 training be it IBMs or their own version; some are good but the majority are both incredibly expensive and fundamentally terrible from what I have seen.
Does your Consultancy not have anyone with a TM1 background that could help you? Or is this their first forray into the world of TM1 as well?
Most skilled TM1 people I've come across have learned it on the job via a mixture of self learning and/or help of colleagues.

This forum is a reasonable port of call as long as users follow the request for assistance guidelines and most areas of the world probably have some skilled up contractors who could help you out now and again should your company be willing to pay that... the difficulty would be telling which are actually good and which are perhaps exagerrating their abilities.

Thanks Declan - appreciate the help. We don't have anyone in our group who's worked with TM1 before.

So neither you nor anyone else in your group has any experience in TM1, yet you were hired to help a company figure out their TM1 issues? Unbelievable, or maybe not in these times. Also, you have to become skilled enough in just under week too? Do the sensible thing and find someone in your area you can sub the work out to. Bring them with you to the client and just act they're part of your team. You're just going to look incompetent if you try and figure it out yourself. Like Declan said, feeders are not that complicated but for a complete beginner they can be very challenging, especially when you are being tasked to figure out what someone else did wrong. Good luck.

Well, they have other issues that we are fairly confident we can help them out with. I.e. - their ETL process issues is something we can handle. The second week that I am there is just to scope out their issues (and try to determine if it is a data load issue or a TM1 issue) and try to assess if the issues are something we are able to take care of. I have a good BI/ETL background, but obviously coming onto a client site with no experience with the tool they are using could be a little daunting

In fact, you have to start somewhere, and (at least where I live) TM1 isn't a master that you can follow at university.
But that means that you should hire someone who is competent and knows what he/she is doing.
Do a couple of projects together and soon you'll get the hang of it - yet it will take you some more time before you will have the skills to present yourself to a customer in a confident and credible way. Start by following courses and sparring with experienced TM1 developers.

Does sound rather like this promotional video for a well know consulting company !
