TM1 on the Cloud

I am exploring this as an option for a prospect who does not want to invest in hardware/full TM1 purchase etc.
Does anyone have any feedback that they can share in terms of their experience?
Any comments around the following:
  • Licensing - Overages - billed monthly in arrears but does anyone know if this is based on actual usage versus configured clients
  • Connectivity - Users will need a combination of Web, Perspectives and iPad via App
  • Performance - Specifications of VM - processors/RAM/Disk etc.
  • Interfaces - TI imports - flat file and ODBC to local sources i.e. TI on instance in Cloud would presumably need to use a UNC to local machine/server - how is the link made, authentication etc. etc.
The above list is obviously not exhaustive but comments will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You are probably best to talk to IBM but as far as I'm aware as the IBM TM1 Cloud offering currently stands you won't get what you have specified.

- Cloud does not support Perspectives, the only Excel connectivity is CAFE
- RDP to the cloud server is possible (with Excel + Perspectives) but this is for developer/admin only as development of Tm1 websheets requires Perspectives. This feature is not for end users.
- TI data sources are flat file only managed by ftp import to the cloud server. UNC connection to a folder location somewhere within the corporate firewall is not possible. ODBC is not possible.

I would expect/hope that the data connectivity will expand to beyond local text files and include at the very least ODBC. But I wouldn't expect cloud TM1 to ever support Perspectives, CAFE is the logical tool for the job.

Thanks Lotsaram - was hoping for better feedback but expecting what you said.

In the meantime, I did find TM1 Cloud FAQ which interested readers may find useful. The Knowledge Centre also has some introductory information that looks to be recent.

The following are clarified (as of 5 April 2015):
  • Configuration - Standard offering 64GB Ram, 8 Cores, 200Gb Disk; Single tenant premium 512Gb Ram, 40 cores, 500 Gb disk (Max values, starts low and increased by Cloud Ops)
  • Environments You seem to get a Production and Non-Production environment on different VMs
  • Interfaces - RDP/FTP to copy files up to a filesystem share/ftp share
  • Applications - TM1 Server (core), Web, Applications, Ops Console, PM, Insight
  • Cloud Control - used to stop/start services
  • Authentication - Mode 1 - Native unless using Concert/BI then CAM (mode 5), possible linkage to Client's AD using SAML2
  • Access Control - White-listing of IP addresses
  • TI-files should reside on Share folder as this is accessible to server and backed up
  • Connectivity - CAFE remotely, Perspectives/Architect via remote desktop, iPad via contributor App - Knowledge Center has some more on this.
Still looking for a definitive answer on how usage is tracked and then billed...

Is there anyone out there that has actually implemented this solution?

I am battling to find out more information from IBM at the moment.
Besides the billing question, I am trying to gauge how long it will take to get from the time of loading the opportunity to getting the agreements produced through to the VM being available.

Anyone???

Hi

We could get the VM up and running in a very few days, say 2-3, after submitting our order to IBM.
Then another ca. 2 days to get FP4 because the default was FP2

That is good news - not a bad turnaround time - probably safe to tell clients a week or so though.

Hi there,
We are just completing implementation on Cloud. Let me know if you have any questions.
We havent gone over on usage yet, so I don't know the answer yet.
When we licensed it was as though it was for unique IDs.
