Simple system with custom workflow and attachment

Hi all,

We have a requirement to buy or build a simple Approval for Expenditure system with custom routing/workflow capability and ability to attach documents, spreadsheets.

Do you think we can do this using Application Web? We're on TM1 10.1.1
I remember this version doesn't allow programmatic update of the Approval Hierarchy permissions. So that's why I'm not sure to start there...
Should I try to use TM1 Web and build custom workflows using rules and/or TI ?
But what about ability to submit/upload supporting documents? Has anyone integrated some type of document upload web service?

Thanks!

Why anyone would try and do something like this in TM1 escapes me. Because you already own TM1? You probably already own Sharepoint too and it is way better suited for something like this.

Are you saying that TM1 shouldn't be used as a AFE or Capex approval system? http://www.comesio.com/cms/fileadmin/us ... eprint.pdf
or are you saying that custom routing shouldn't be built into TM1? even though Application Web has a simple routing system.
or are you saying that document attachment should be built into TM1? even though Application Web has ability to attach documents.

As for Sharepoint, in many organizations, IT has control of Sharepoint... and in my last organization, we were waiting on IT to "upgrade" Sharepoint for 2 years and still was waiting.

Well, I never said you couldn't do it in TM1. Since it looks like you've answered your own question go ahead and knock yourself out. I was just opining that there are other tools out there more suited for the task that likely won't cost you any money, just development time. If the point of the exercise is to accumulate numbers and have some workflow around it, then TM1 is certainly well suited. However, if the attachments, like Word documents and Excel sheets are what's important, then Sharepoint is light years ahead. You're not going to get any version control, change tracking, etc., in TM1. These are things that, in my opinion, are the crux of the matter in a capital expenditure approval system. Accumulating CapEx dollars is easy, the hard part is all the support behind the spend.

No, I was answering your question of why someone would want to do this, since you said it was beyond your brain.

Since Application Web's security/permissions cannot be programmatically updated in 10.1.1, I was hoping that a modest, intelligent person with experience building custom workflows in TM1 Web or possibly Perspectives could tell me if I could feasibly build a simple workflow and attachment functionality (such as found in Application Web) can be built in TM1 Web... but, instead, you questioned why and stated it was beyond your brain.

I don't have a problem admitting I'm not very intelligent so I'll just bow out of this one and wish you good luck. You obviously don't need any advice.

On the contrary, I definitely need and is seeking advice. You see, even a semi-intelligent person like me who's been tested with 99.999 percentile IQ and educated in top junior, senior high schools and universities in this country, still knows that there's always someone out there who is smarter, has more experience, and/or has a better idea.

I've seen your posts, and you are definitely intelligent. However, just don't go about attacking people's decisions categorically with statements like

without asking for background info nicely.
