RFE 65166-Sort Numerically within Dimension/Subset

If you have elements 1,2,3..10,11,12 and sort these A-Z you get 1,10,11,12,2,3 etc. as the elements are strings.
If you have to add elements without padding leading zeroes, you cannot sort the list easily (dimension order or subset view). Sure you can copy to Excel, delete in subset editor, paste sorted, click manual sort, save etc.

It would be *nice* to have a 0-9, 9-0 type function.

... but you can have an attribute with the padded leading 0s and use the MDX ORDER function to achieve the desired result? or not?

it could be done but you really want to have it sorted naturally without going to all the fuss - you just want to "sort anything that looks like a number as a number", one click

Agreed; it should be basic sort and filter functionality, though I'll admit that the leading zero workaround mentioned by Lotsaram has always worked fine for me. If you submit it through the RFE channel I for one would certainly add my vote to it, though admittedly I think it's more likely to languish in the lower to mid range vote tally.

There's many things as long term users that we've just got used to working around. As a developer IBM will see this as something that can be easily worked around. I doubt it will see the light of day. I also agree that this should be in there. For me the A -> Z sort should be intelligent enough to do this anyway.

Vote submitted. But I wouldn't get your hopes up; as Jim said if there's a workaround they probably won't bother with it, especially in Perspectives and Architect. I think the last thing of significance that they did there (if you discount new icons, which I tend to do for some odd reason) is the recently abandoned .Net Rules editor. Beyond that Perspectives / Architect has been the woefully neglected cousin in the Quest For Java.

Thanks for the vote Alan - will check this functionality on CAFE as I am sure between this and PM, developers are hard at work adding features - get an RFE in on these products early enough and who knows (will be clinging to old school TM1 for as long as I have strength though)

Good plan. If they're linked in any way they may apply to architect at the same time, although I'm not counting any of those chicken I see wandering by. (I'm on medication as I'm sick as a dog at the mo.)
