How to configure to send out email when a user submits data

If we have a approval application set up with multiple levels of approval,
1. how do we configure Cognos TM1 (10.2) such that if the node at the lowerl level is submitted it should trigger an email notification to the approver at the higher level node informing of the submission.
2. Is there any way to setup automatic (or manually) reminder emails to those who are attached to nodes that are not yet submitted.

There is also plenty of information on this forum of how to send an email via a TI process.

From what I remember from my limited experience with Contributor workflow, when a node is submitted in Contributor, it fires off a control process which are editable in Architect.
