i guess i know, how to cascade - that was the original plan => to assign Application's access on the top level and cascade it to the subfolders. But as this one wouldn't work, i tried just with simple rules to understand, how the thing works.
Which suprises me a lot is, that Rule-based Security for cubes, dimensions and processes works fine. The only explanation i have there, is that with Applications we don't have a "flat" dimensions anymore.

I could try to use Applications -> Security Assignment, but then after a new group has been added (which happens from time to time), i will have to go there and manually set access to none (because i have extra Groups to control visibility of applications), as default access for applications is read to all.

The nice thing is also, after I create a rule for }ApplicationsSecurity and then delete it (after it will not work), then cascading of Applications' access which is set via Applications -> Security Assignment doesn't work any more -> "read" access is only set to the Top-Level application. Only after i delete }ApplicationSecurity.cub before server restart will it work again.

Anyway, i will continue trying.

Thanks for the reply. When I say that there are no rules, I mean no RUX file at all, rather than an empty RUX. (I did originally have rules, but I deleted them when I started getting random occurences of people not being able to get access to Application Folders.

I think that something has somehow become corrupted. On go live date the problem struck again and no one had access to any application folders at all. I ended up shutting down the server and deleting the application security cubes then re-starting and that cured the problem. However, there are clearly some bugs around the way that application security works. When I get a little more time I will experiment in the dev environment via the menus to see if it works OK there and the problem is just when you enter settings directly into the underlying cube.

Given that I found that there are problems if you just enter settings directly into the underlying cube, there are probably even more problems if you calculate the settings in the underlying cube using rules, which probably explains some of the problems that people in the rest of this thread are having.

For now I am going to leave it so that everyone sees every application - not ideal but at least it works.
