Hi,
I am having quite a few problems with Spreading in the Cube Viewer and in Perspectives, most of the time I am getting the error message 'Spreading Operation has failed because the content of the cells cannot be modified'. There are no rules in the area I am trying to manipulate. I find that spreading does only seem to work if you are pretty much close to base level, for example if all dimensions are set to a base level element and you are spreading from 'All Months' down into the individual months. If I set the cost centers to 'All' too (so I have two C-Elements selected) then I already run into this problem. The user guide does not provide much help, any idea why I am having so many problems with the spreading?
thanks
Marcus

Which Spreading method do you use on the C level elements?

Re: "Spreading operation has failed..."
Proportional Spreading works fine (of course only on existing values) on any level, so do 'Relative Proportional Spreading' and 'Percentage Change'. The user manual says that the cube viewer/excel perspectives only offers spreading methods which can be used with the current slice/cell so I am assuming that when I can pick a method it should work
.
I think what I am surprised with is that 'Equal Spread' doesn't seem to work on empty cells when I am on more than 1 C-Level element, it works on existing allocation of values. On existing values I find it kind of useless
. Same thing with 'Repeat', it works on existing data but not on empty cells, well, on empty cells I can at least use 'Equal Spread Leaves'.
Am I expecting too much
?
cheers

Re: "Spreading operation has failed..."
Ahhh, but do you by chance have rules that apply not to the area you are applying the spread to but somewhere in the cube? Are there any cube areas to which a STET rule is applied?Marcus wrote:I am having quite a few problems with Spreading in the Cube Viewer and in Perspectives, most of the time I am getting the error message 'Spreading Operation has failed because the content of the cells cannot be modified'. There is a problem with spreading in 9.4 where a STET rule will cause a repeat leaves or equal spread to fail for an unpopulated cube area. Search IBM support for "PK94904: REPEAT LEAVES & EQUAL SPREAD LEAVES DOES NOT WORK WHEN STET RULE IS APPLIED".
What you are describing sounds like this bug. There is usually nothing that will make spreading fail regardless of level unless rule calculations apply to some of the underlying values. Spreading from a high level usually just takes longer.

Also check if your security rights are set to write for all elements. I ran into a similar problem because elements were dynamically added via TI. The securities for all new elements were not updated so any data in the new elements could not be modified.
